Oklahoma looks for first Big 12 victory

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 8/8 Oklahoma Sooners (7-3-1, 0-1) host Big 12 rival No. 9/12 Iowa State (9-4, 0-0) this Saturday at the Howard McCasland Field House beginning at 4 p.m.

The Sooners come into the match after winning two straight last weekend against Fresno State and Cal Poly. The Cyclones come into the match after defeating Northern Iowa 24-15 last Sunday.

This weekend's premiere match pits No. 1 Teyon Ware vs. No. 2 Nate Gallick. The two last met in November at the NWCA All Star Classic in Stillwater, Okla., where Gallick defeated Ware 3-1. Ware defeated Gallick 3-2 in the 141 pound NCAA final last year to claim his second 141 pound NCAA Championship.

SoonerSports.com will broadcast the match live on the O-Zone.

Fan Appreciation Day is also scheduled for Saturday. The day will include a pre-match clinic sponsored by Marc Heitz and a Oklahoma wrestling legends autograph session followed by the Oklahoma-Iowa State wrestling match.

Fan Appreciation Day is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with the Marc Heitz Wrestling Clinic conducted by former OU wrestlers Orville Palmer and E.K. Waldhaus. All participants must have wrestling shoes during the clinic. At 3 p.m., the Sooners will hold an autograph session featuring University of Oklahoma wrestling legends. The afternoon will conclude with the Sooners hosting Iowa State at 4 p.m.

Fans wishing to participate in the Marc Heitz clinic can order tickets by calling Dave Haskin at (405) 325-5482 or purchase tickets at the McCasland Field House on Saturday. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices for Fan Appreciation Day are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. Teams can also purchase tickets for $3 each with a minimum of 10 people.

The Sooners are home again next Friday, Feb. 3, when they hosts Arizona State at 7 p.m., inside the Howard McCasland Field House. The match will also mark Danny Hodge Night. Hodge, an Oklahoma wrestling legend, will be signing autographs before the match from 6-7 p.m.
