Missouri appeared as if they might have a hole at 197 lbs during the upcoming 2026-27 season. Grad transfer Evan Bates went 2-2 at the national tournament, but is out of eligibility. That all changed today as the Tigers got a commitment from Luke Geog - formerly of Ohio State.
Geog got the nod in a crowded Buckeye 197 lb weight class and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in his career. Geog earned the #12 seed after finishing third in the Big Ten in 2026. In Cleveland, Geog was upset in the opening round, but battled back to the bloodround, earning three straight consolation wins. One came over the #6 seed, Justin Rademacher, a U20 world champion, from Oregon State. Rademacher had beaten him in the regular season.
In 2024, Geog finished sixth at the Big Ten Championships and went 0-2 at the national tournament.
Geog was unavailable for most of the 2024-25 season and is expected to receive an injury waiver for that year. If that’s the case, he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
The 197 lber is the second major transfer for the Tigers this offseason. They also added 2025 All-American Zan Fugitt, who is expected to compete at 141 lbs after moving up from 133. With Geog in the fold, Brian Smith’s team could unveil a lineup that features eight past national qualifiers (and two high-profile redshirt freshmen).
