    Iowa State snags road win over Arizona State

    TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Iowa State wrestling team (8-3 overall, 1-2 Big 12) got bonus point wins from its two All-Americans en route to a 21-12 road win tonight at Wells Fargo Arena over Arizona State (6-6 overall, 1-0 Pac-12).

    No. 2 Kyven Gadson won his 25th straight dual match, as he was able to lockup a nearside cradle early in the third period to pin ASU’s Josh DaSilveria. Gadson now has six falls on the season. The win tonight pushes his overall record to 18-2 and his dual record to 10-0.

    No. 10 Michael Moreno tallied his fourth major decision of the season after downing ASU’s Nick Rex 12-2. Moreno scored four takedowns in the match and finished with 1:30 of riding time. The junior from Urbandale, Iowa leads the Cyclones in dual takedowns with 27.

    Luke Goettl was victorious in his return to his home state, downing ASU’s Preston McCalmon 9-3 in front of an abundance of friends and family. The Clarkdale, Ariz. native is now 12-10 on the season and 6-5 in dual contest.

    Heavyweight Quean Smith needed some late match heroics to defeat ASU’s Chace Eskam. The Detroit, Mich. native won in sudden victory after scoring a takedown on textbook counter attack to an Eskam shot. Smith’s win was the first road dual victory of his career.

    No. 10 Tanner Weatherman was in control of his match early leading ASU’s Ray Waters 3-0 at the start of the second period. Waters was able to turn the tides, scoring a five-point move. Weatherman fired back with two takedowns to get the 9-6 win and improve his season record to 19-10. The win over Waters was the 40th career victory for the sophomore from Huxley, Iowa.

    Shayden Terukina picked up his second dual win of the season over ASU’s Kalin Goodsite. The Kamehameha, Hawaii, native had a five-point throw late in the first period, nearly pinning Goodsite. Terukina went on to win the match 8-4 after notching another takedown in second period.

    Iowa State is back on the mat next Saturday, as it travels northeast to face instate rival No. 5 UNI (7-0 overall, 4-0 MAC) in West Gym at 5 p.m. CDT. The Cyclones have won 10 straight over the Panthers dating back to Jan. 24, 2004.
