Iowa State inks Iowa City West wrestler Bauer

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa City West wrestler Dakota Bauer signed his national letter of intent with the Cyclones Wednesday. Bauer is projected to be a 141-pounder for Iowa State and enters his senior season as a Trojan with a 127-10 record and 53 pins.

Iowa City West wrestlers Phillip Laux, Dakota Bauer, Justin Koethe, and Jack Hathaway signed with Division I programs
Before transferring to Iowa City West, Bauer won the Class 2A State Championship at 112 pounds his freshman year at Ballard High school. As a sophomore Bauer placed seventh in 2A at 130 pounds with the Trojans. In 2011 Bauer was the Class 3A state runner-up and had recorded 28 technical falls in his career. Bauer looks to end his high school campaign with a second state championship this year. Iowa State head wrestling coach Kevin Jackson says Bauer's shot at a starting spot is high if he continues to improve.

"Dakota is a special young man," Jackson said. "He adds depth to our program and he's another Iowa product that we're putting on our team. If you look at our roster we continue to put the very best Iowa kids on our team so we're happy with Dakota verbally committing to us as early as he did and our expectations are high for him."
