Iowa State dominates in 27-6 win over Arizona State

AMES, Iowa -- No. 8 Iowa State (9-2, 2-1 Big 12) won eight of 10 matches in a 27-6 victory over Arizona State (7-7, 2-2 Pac 12) in wrestling action Friday night in Hilton Coliseum.

Bonus points were awarded to Earl Hall (technical fall at 133 pounds) and Michael Moreno (major decision at 165 pounds), as the Cyclones won their 1,041st dual in program history.

Third-ranked Michael Moreno scored the first Cyclone points with a 12-4 major decision over ASU’s Jacen Petersen at 165 pounds. Moreno wasted little time by recording three first-period takedowns. His 18th victory of the season featured five takedowns in all.

At 174 pounds, Tanner Weatherman’s takedown with under a minute left in the third period was the deciding factor in his 4-1 victory over ASU’s Ray Waters. Weatherman, ranked 12th nationally, improves to 20-7 on the year.

No. 2 Kyven Gadson picked up a decision at 197 pounds with a 12-7 victory over Luke Bean.
