Former Oklahoma State great Ward passes away

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Former Oklahoma State two-sport All-American John Ward died of cancer Tuesday at the age of 64.

The Enid, Okla., native was a tackle for the Cowboy football team from 1967-69 and received All-America status in 1969.

That same year, he was named All-American as a heavyweight for the OSU wrestling team after finishing third at the NCAA Championships. In his two years as a starter for the wrestling squad, Ward compiled a 35-5 overall record.

Ward went on to play professionally for the Minnesota Vikings in the 70s, making two Super Bowl appearances.
