Never Too Early Lineup Look: Indiana

In our new series, “The Never Too Early Lineup Look,” we’ll preview a potential lineup for a particular school. Since we’re a few months away from even the preseason, there will likely be plenty of moving parts at most schools. And that’s okay. Fans enjoy debating how their favorite teams (or rivals) could look in the upcoming season.

Today, we’re headed to the Big Ten to check out the Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana was recently mentioned in InterMat’s Recruiting Rankings at #14 in the nation. Head coach Angel Escobedo’s staff signed a class that featured seven of the top-200 wrestlers in the nation; including two from the top-100. Last year, the Hoosiers were given an honorable mention for their class.

Clearly, the future is bright in Bloomington and recruits would like to get in with a Big Ten program that’s on the rise.

While the signs are pointing in the correct direction, progress in the Big Ten can be slow as the league is loaded with some of the best programs in the nation. In 2022, Indiana finished dead last at the Big Ten Championships with four points. They jumped up to 12th in 2023, with 30 points. A year later, they remained in 12th; however, Indiana did see their team point total rise to 33.

Indiana was hit hard in the offseason by graduation as they lost starters and NCAA qualifiers from 133-157 lbs. Some of those losses could be mitigated by the fact that Escobedo redshirted three starters - including one with NCAA experience.

All told the 2024-25 Indiana team can feature five wrestlers with past NCAA experience. The only problem now is finding out the proper way to get all of them in the lineup at the same time.
