    Nebraska tops Michigan

LINCOLN -- The fourth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team won six of ten bouts, scoring bonus points in four matches to defeat No. 22 Michigan 25-15 in front of 1,891 fans on Senior Night at the Devaney Center on Friday. Johnny Blankenship, Zak Hensley, David Jensen, Collin Purinton, Kyle Ruettiger and Isaiah White were all honored in a pre-meet ceremony.

The dual began with a ranked matchup at 157 pounds between No. 19 Peyton Robb and No. 9 Will Lewan. In a low-scoring affair, Lewan scored the match-winning takedown with under one minute left in Period 3 and held on for a 4-3 victory.

No. 5 Isaiah White (165) tallied four takedowns and led from start to finish against Tyler Meisinger and the Chicago, Ill., native recorded an 11-4 decision in his Devaney Center finale.

No. 6 Mikey Labriola (174) put forth a dominant effort against Max Maylor, using a five-takedown third period to top off a 23-8 technical fall victory.

No. 11 Taylor Venz (184) looked the part of a returning All-American in his matchup with No. 20 Jelani Embree. Venz scored four takedowns and four nearfall points en route to a 16-6 major decision.

No. 5 Eric Schultz (197) extended his team-high dual meet win total to 12 with a workmanlike effort against Jackson Striggow. Schultz scored points in all three periods and won by decision, 6-3.

Senior David Jensen (HWT) faced a tall task on Friday, taking on Michigan's undefeated and second-ranked sophomore Mason Parris. The Wolverine grappler proved to be formidable and ran his record to 24-0 with a first-period fall.

Alex Thomsen (125) and No. 19 Jack Medley were scoreless after Period 1 and Thomsen scored first with a second-period escape, but Medley finished with a flurry, using four third-period points to win by decision, 6-1.

No. 14 Ridge Lovett (133) ran his Big Ten dual meet winning streak to five with an 11-0 major decision victory over Michigan's Austin Assad. Lovett started strong with a six-point first period and held the Wolverine senior scoreless for the duration of the match.

No. 8 Chad Red Jr. (141) recorded his third pin in his last four appearances with a 52-second fall against Cole Mattin.

The dual concluded with a third bout between ranked wrestlers. No. 16 Collin Purinton (149) closed out his Devaney Center career against No. 10 Kanen Storr. Purinton, a Banks, Ore., native, fought valiantly but came up short, and fell by a final score of 8-5.

The Big Red travel to No. 13 Minnesota (9-6, 4-3 Big Ten) to close out the regular season on Feb. 21. Wrestling from the Maturi Pavilion will begin at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPNU and the WatchESPN platform.
