ASU wrestlers to compete in Embry-Riddle Open

TEMPE -- While the dual season doesn’t get underway until November 13, many of the Arizona State University wrestlers will take to the mats this Saturday as they will compete unattached at the 2010 Embry-Riddle Collegiate Championships inside the Activity Center Gymnasium in Prescott, Ariz. The open tournament starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and will conclude that evening with the finals of each of the 10 weight classes.

Many of the team’s redshirting wrestlers and several of the individuals that are fighting for a starting position in the Sun Devil line-up will compete on Saturday. Last year, 13 different wrestlers with ties to the program competed in Prescott with three Sun Devils placing in the Top 4 of their respective weight classes. Kalin Goodsite and Jake Hannaford both placed at 133 pounds, finishing second and fourth, respectively, while Orlando Jimenez finished fourth at 149 pounds.

The tournament will mark the first of two events Sun Devil wrestlers will take part in on the ERAU campus in as many weeks. Following this week’s tournament, the Sun Devils will return to Prescott at 7 p.m. next Saturday (November 13) when they face the Eagles in a dual. Earlier in the day, ASU will open its dual season with a 1 p.m. contest at Grand Canyon University (Phoenix).
