The Mountaineers (9-2, 4-0 Southern Conference) defeated The Citadel by double digits in the first match of the afternoon, smashing the Bulldogs 34-15.
Three Mountaineers took down their opponents with pins to catapult them over The Citadel. Colby Smith started the day off strong with a 2:47 pin to give App the early 6-0 lead. Later In the 184 weight class, David Peters-Logue overpowered Chandler Sambets in 1:13. Finally, Denzel Dejournette took no mercy and neutralized his opponent in 2:11.
For the second match of the afternoon, App State registered another double-digit win, 23-10, over the Golden Eagles.
Mirroring the first match against the Bulldogs, Smith started the latter half of the afternoon collecting the most points in a 14-2 major decision. After dropping the next weight class, the Mountaineers won five straight bouts ending in decisions to secure a convincing lead Clarion could not recover from.
Up next, Appalachian will travel down to Durham, N.C. to take on the Duke Blue Devils at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
