Angel Najar trailed 7-0 after one period of his 14-8 decision against Nate Newberry at 157 pounds in the next match. Najar got an escape, takedown and four-point near fall to tie the match entering the third period, and he followed an escape by Newberry with a takedown and another four-point near fall.
With a minute-plus advantage in riding time, Michael Elliott was practically tied at 4-4 with Alex Carida following a late takedown, but Elliott then executed an escape with six seconds left to claim a 5-4 decision.
Thomas Flitz's 19-2 technical fall against Gavin Hale at 174 pounds pushed the lead 22-0, and Randall Diabe produced a tiebreaking takedown with 28 seconds remaining in his 3-1 decision against Kyle Murphy at 197 pounds. App State heavyweight Cary Miller followed that match with a 7-1 decision against Bruce Graeber, and Codi Russell capped the dual with a 15-6 major decision against Shawn Orem at 133 pounds.
