    American dominates George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Falls by Jeric Kasunic, Brett Dempsey and Kizhan Clarke were part of five bonus-point victories and nine wins overall, as American University earned a 38-3 victory at George Mason in a dual wrestling match on Thursday.

The win lifted the Eagles to a 7-6 record overall, while the Patriots fell to 3-13.

Kasunic, an Eagle senior who is ranked 10th in the nation, pinned Eli Spencer in 2:23. He earned the 96th win of his career, as he is on track to become only the eighth AU wrestler to earn 100 victories. His 37th career pin ranks second all-time at AU. Kasunic improved to 29-3 on the season and 12-0 in dual matches.

Dempsey, ranked 26th at heavyweight, won his seventh straight match by pinning Devin Rolon in 2:20. He dominated the first period, amassing a 14-4 lead at the time of his third pin of the season.

At 141, Clarke rolled to a 14-2 lead in the first period and needed just 38 seconds in the second to pin Trevor Mello. It was his second fall of the season and was the eighth victory in his last 10 bouts.

"We were very happy with the total team effort tonight," said AU head coach Teague Moore. "We got dominant performances from Kasunic, Dempsey, Josh Terao, Clarke and Eric Hong. We also had great wins by Anthony Wokasch, Michael Eckhart, Conner Allshouse and Gage Curry. Even Elijah Murphy, in his second start, gave a great fight.

"We will enjoy the win tonight but must refocus tomorrow for a tough Ohio dual at home on Saturday. We need to take our seniors out with a great victory."

Thursday's dual started at 165 pounds, with redshirt freshman Wokasch taking a 4-2 win over Garrett Griffith. Wokasch earned his second dual-match victory by taking a 3-2 lead into the third period, earning an escape and holding on for the win.

Eckhart held 2-1 and 4-2 leads after the first two periods at 174, scoring an escape and riding-time point to take a 6-2 win over Levko Higgins.

Redshirt freshman Allshouse also got his second dual-match win of the season at 184, scoring all three of his points in the final period to take a 3-2 victory.

Curry earned a 5-2 lead over Ibrahim Bundika and held on for a 6-4 win at 125 pounds before Terao, ranked 9th, scored 16 points in the opening period at 133 on his way to an 18-2 (3:09) tech fall over Talha Farooq.

The Patriots' lone victory came at 149 pounds, with Justin Yorkdale winning 6-0 over Murphy, a redshirt freshman who was wrestling only the second dual of his collegiate career.

Hong finished the night with an 11-2 major decision at 157, extending a 5-1 lead with a six-point third period.

American has its final dual match of the season at home on Saturday night when it hosts Ohio University at 7 p.m. The Eagles will honor Kasunic, Dempsey and Eckhart in Senior Night festivities before the match.
