Carolina opened with a dominating performance in a 55-0 win over Sacred Heart in a dual that featured seven Tar Heel pins. The win marked the sixth time in school history that a Carolina squad reached the 50-point plateau and the largest win since a 56-0 win over Clemson in 1975.
Josh Craig opened with a pin of Joe Harris at 125 pounds in the first period as he picked up six team points in 1:46.
Senior Brock LiVorio cruised to a 15-0 technical fall victory over Robert O'Neill as he needed just 3:35 to end the bout and give Carolina five more team points.
Freshman Evan Henderson picked up a first period pin at 141 pounds as well when he bested Andrew Polidore in 2:14 to make the team score 17-0.
Nick Heilmann notched the second tech fall of the dual with an 18-2 win in the 149 pound bout as he finished off Justin Belanger in 6:29.
Jon Burns earned a first period pin of Joseph Evangelista to make it 28-0 before Kyle Kiss added six more points for the Tar Heels at 165 pounds. Kiss pinned Sam Sheppard in 5:33 to earn the win.
Freshman Alex Utley got back to his winning ways on Sunday with a 7-3 decision win over Jonathan Rizzitello at 174 pounds before a flurry of pins.
Thomas Ferguons downed Zachary Moran in 5:45 at 184 pounds followed by Zac Bennett's pin of Sam Morison at 197 pounds in 2:07 before Nick Tenpenny capped off the day with a pin of Renaldo Cuko in 1:49.
Carolina fell into an early hole in the dual against the hosts, The Citadel, as Richard Alarcon and Kyle Casaletto each claimed decisions over Brian Bokoski and Brock LiVorio at 125 and 133 pounds to give The Citadel a 6-0 lead.
Back-to-back major decisions from Evan Henderson, 10-2, and Nick Heilmann, 15-4, in the next two bouts pushed Carolina in front at 8-6 and Carolina never looked back.
A 1-0 decision by Corey Mock over Pierre Frazile at 157 pounds pushed the lead to 11-6 before Kyle Kiss added a decision of his own to make the lead 14-6.
A loss at 174 pulled The Citadel within five points at 14-9 before the duo of Thomas Ferguson and Zac Bennett rattled off back-to-back pins to seal the match for the Tar Heels and ensure a 2-0 weekend. Ferguson claimed his pin over Josh Tuck at 184 pounds less than 30 seconds into the third period.
Bennett wrestled less than four minutes on the day as he pinned Kelby Smith of The Citadel in 1:41 after registering a pin earlier in the day in the first period as well.
Andrew Delaney made the final deficit 26-12 in favor of the Tar Heels as he claimed a 6-1 decision over Nick Tenpenny at heavyweight.
