This afternoon, NCAA All-American Nico Provo announced that he isn’t leaving! The Stanford 125 lber entered the transfer portal, but used social media today to confirm that he’ll stay in Palo Alto for his final year of eligibility.
It’s another sigh of relief from those close to the Stanford program. It appeared as if the Cardinal team might get hammered by the transfer portal; however, Provo and All-American teammates Tyler Knox and Hunter Garvin have also stated their intentions to return to the program.
Provo missed the entire 2024-25 season with an injury but returned in a big way last season. Provo made his debut at the 2025 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and finished third in a strong weight class. At the ACC Championships, Provo finished second, losing to Virginia Tech’s Eddie Ventresca in tiebreakers.
In Cleveland, at the NCAA Championships, Provo won his opening round match before running into the eventual national runner-up, Marc-Anthony McGowan (Princeton). From that point, Provo reeled off six straight wins to finish in third place. To clinch All-America honors, Provo downed returning All-American Sheldon Seymour (Lehigh) in the bloodround. For third place, Provo downed the returning NCAAc champion, Vince Robinson (NC State), 11-4. It was the third time in 2025-26 that Provo had beaten Robinson.
Through three years of competition, Provo has qualified for nationals on three occasions and has been a conference runner-up twice. In 2026, he was seeded seventh at the NCAA Tournament.
Provo’s Stanford team set program highs in 2026 with 67.5 team points and a sixth-place finish in Cleveland.
With Provo back in the fold, Chris Ayres’ team will be able to feature a lineup that includes SIX returning All-Americans. We’ll get to see that loaded lineup in Tulsa at the National Duals Invitational. Stanford’s sixth place finish at NCAA’s gave them an automatic invitation to the event, one which they have accepted.
