During the spring and summer of 2006, 15 head coaching positions at the DI level were opened and were filled. At the time, that accounted for almost 20% of the DI schools in the nation. And they weren't just any vacancies; they were at some of the most prestigious wrestling schools in the country. In fact, the head coaches that have accounted for EVERY NCAA team title since 2008 changed jobs during that offseason. Some programs regained their status as national powers. Others started their ascend towards new heights, while some faded towards obscurity.
