  1. But will he be favored over Dean Hamiti?

  2. I don't think you can fairly answer this question (what D1 coach does a lot with less) simply by looking at NCAA finishes. It's useful for differentiating the very top teams, but not for differentiating the next tier of teams. Consider, for example, two different hypothetical mid-tier D1 schools, each of whom is only able to attract a mediocre group of recruits. Coach 1 is killing it with them, and by the end of 4 years, the average WrestlStat ranking of his starters is 25, with all in the 20-35 range. Coach 2 is mailing it in, and after 4 years, his starters have an average WrestlStat ranking of 95. Huge difference! Problem is, NCAA results don't show it, since neither team has guys who are able to put up any points at the big show. And if Coach 2 happens to have one guy who suddenly gets good, his team may place higher at NCAAs than Coach 1, despite his overall team being far worse. Last year, for example, Minnesota took 22nd at NCAAs, while Air Force took 21st. Does that mean Air Force is a better program overall than Minnesota? I don't think anyone would say that. Pretty much all of Air Force's 21.5 points came from a single guy. Everyone would agree Minny is the stronger program overall, and in a dual, Minny would win 9 out of 10. You make the point that Keckeisen was sort of like Hendrickson last year, accounting for almost all of UNI's points. That's fair as far as it goes, but ignores the rest of the team. Most regard UNI so highly is that their team may not be a bunch of AAs, but they're all hammers, up and down the lineup. Schwab's like Coach 1 in the above example, taking a group of guys who weren't highly recruited, and making them good enough that they can hold a team like Nebraska to single digits on a given day. True, they don't have many clear AA candidates beyond Keckeisen (there's Downey, maybe Happel), but their worst-ranked guy is #31, and second worst is #21. How many other schools can say that about their second-worst starter is #21 or better? They're an absolute nightmare in a dual -- arguably top 5 in the country. And they're doing this with nothing. Most years they don't crack the top 20 in recruiting rankings, and the best they've ever been ranked by Flo the in the past 5 recruiting classes (2020-24) is 18th. So no, I don't think it's any sort of "indictment of the times" to say Schwab takes the prize for Who Does Most With the Less. Without Keckeisen in their lineup, their NCAA point total will go down, but UNI will still have a monster lineup and win a ton of duals over schools with higher-ranked recruiting classes.

  5. I wouldn't take too much stock in Bo's comments. These interviews are geared towards MMA fans. Can't tell you how many worthless debates I've been in with my MMA buddies during the Burroughs/Khabib era. They legit thought Khabib could beat him on the mat. Same crap and no different than the McGregror nut huggers who believed he could beat Mayweather in boxing

  9. But it's so much easier to just hate the idea of it because Trump said it...as opposed to being able to articulate, with facts to back it up, that any of these ideas are "bad". I personally don't really know what to think at this point...superficially, sorta sounds like good ideas...but without more information I can't have a strong opinion one way or the other.

  12. the usual crew of leftist dippies seem hellbent on making this about politics for some reason. the point is - whether it's Epstein or Hollywood or Diddy or child trafficking via the border or the recent case in England - it's covered up, ignored, or not prosecuted. so it goes well beyond 'did it occur' and 'are we aware of it'. any historical look at it is not germane. the question is why? why do WE KNOW it's happening but yet the governments. around the world do nothing about it? When it was the Catholic church there was uniform outrage. to the extent that it's still a trope and punchline. justifiably so. however now it's pervasive in the secular world, so where's that same energy?

  15. I think they will look like a totally different team on Saturday night, against a very strong Minnesota team. UNI is no slouch of a team by the way, I think they wrestled at their very best and Nebraska wrestled at their worst.

  18. OK, so we all get it. You cannot prove me worng. Good to know. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_6_United_States_Capitol_attack Within 36 hours, five people died: one was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes, including a police officer who died of natural causes a day after being assaulted by rioters. https://www.factcheck.org/2021/11/how-many-died-as-a-result-of-capitol-riot/ In a tweet on Oct. 24, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 as “a terror attack,” which she said resulted in “almost 10 dead.” She called for “any member of Congress who helped plot” it to be “expelled.” Journalist Glenn Greenwald commented on Twitter that the claim of “‘almost 10 dead’ from the 1/6 riot is deceitful in the extreme. Four people died on 1/6: all Trump supporters.” Two heart attacks: According to an April release from the Washington, D.C., medical examiner’s office, “Stop the Steal” protesters Kevin Greeson, 55, and Benjamin Phillips, 50, both died of cardiovascular disease, and the manner of death was deemed “natural.” An accidental overdose: D.C. police also said on the day after the riot that Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennisaw, Georgia, suffered a “medical emergency.” The New York Times reported on Jan. 15 that Boyland died “in a crush of fellow rioters during their attempt to fight through a police line, according to videos reviewed by The Times.” That narrative was furthered by prosecutors pressing criminal cases against some of the rioters who said that as rioters clashed with police, Boyland “was dying after being trampled by the mob.” But a month later, the D.C. medical examiner’s office released its conclusion that Boyland had died accidentally of “acute amphetamine intoxication.” A shooting death: Ashli Babbitt, 35, of San Diego and an Air Force veteran, died on the day of the riot after being shot in the shoulder by a Capitol Police officer while protesters “were forcing their way toward the House Chamber where Members of Congress were sheltering in place,” according to a Jan. 7 statement from then-U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund. In April, the Department of Justice announced that it would not pursue any charges against the Capitol Police officer who shot Babbitt. Ocasio-Cortez’s statement that the Capitol attack resulted in “almost 10 dead” includes five police officers, none of whom died at the scene on Jan. 6. Please prove this wrong. I am exaggerating of course. mspart

  19. I'm absolutely against the idea of forcibly taking any land and find it shameful that our President is presumably trolling about it. Who's to say he is not being serious. But, for argument sake. Lets say we could purchase it. I've yet to see one counterargument that it would be a bad deal. If anything it would be extremely advantageous on many levels

  28. I first saw Nix wrestle at the 4A East Region tournament in 1987(?). I remember bc he had to wrestle Mike Bodily from Bixby (my hometown) in the finals. From the whistle it looked like somebody put two pissed-off tom cats in a pillow case. Nix won, and I had a new favorite wrestler. Bodily won a rematch in the state final, (denying Nix a fourth state title, I think).

  29. "as the American people voted for less censorship." News flash... the American people have always voted for less censorship. The only real news is that Trump barely eeked out a win with the popular vote - 49% to 48%. And Trump is the only one who wants to control the media and their message... aka "censorship" So I'll fix it - Just a bit more than half the American people voted for more censorship with Trump.

  30. That is a function of the intersection of the raw data with the fitting process. In the 33 seed era several seeds below 18 have as many or more AAs than the 18 seed. The 26 seed is actually the most with 4 AAs to just 1 for the 18 seed. But because the 27, 28 and 33 seeds also have an AA the fitting process pulls the hump a little to the right of where it is in the raw data while also filling in some holes. This is partly to satisfy the two conditions that the number of AAs always equals 8 per weight and the sum of all possibilities per seed always equals 1. The numbers differ slightly every year.

  33. Incorrect. My observation stands. You don't care about the gulf yet took the time (how much is immaterial) to find two articles about it. But you took zero time to find articles that bolster your opinion regarding the things you do care about, Panama and Greenland. That is not tangential. You are the one that posted it and then said you don't care about it. I just observed it. mspart

  34. I think it was Ben Askren that proposed the idea of essentially two seasons; a dual season and a tourney season. Make the first half of the season dual centric.. teams compete to qualify for entry to a dual tournament, and then we watch the top teams face off for a dual title. And then, an individual based tourney schedule where athletes can jockey for seeding post the dual tournament. It doesn't really matter than UNI beats Nebraska in a dual in the first week of January if the place lower at nationals. Without an emphasis on regular season dual results, there is just no real incentive to win a dual if it could potentially cost you a seed or performance come March. Obviously easier said than done.

  36. Someone that did not make my list of favorites but was highly entertaining to watch wrestle was Kurt Kinzer from Indiana. That guy would rip a headlock from anywhere on anyone at anytime. Interestingly, he is the son of Steve Kinzer who was a twenty time sprint car World of Outlaws racing champion (and Indiana HS state wrestling champion).

  38. Is this any different than Argentina calling the island off its coast Las Malvinas and the UK calling it the Falkland lslands? It has been known as the Gulf of Mexico for so long it really won't change. How can a law change the name of international waters from an international standpoint? Not much different than we call it Mexico and they call it Mejico. Whatever. I don't see the alarm here. Who here honestly thinks we will get Canada as the 51st state? That would be the biggest state in the union for sure. I don't think that will happen. Panama has to cede control of the canal. I don't think they will as it is a cash cow. As for taking over Greenland, I don't see that happening. We might get access to their natural resources maybe. Much ado about nothing. mspart

  40. No problem. Here are two other events that had the potential to unravel our federal government. The Whiskey Rebellion and the little known event of the Pennamite-Yankee Wars. And as I've liked to joke around with you on this board @Wrestleknownothing should know we literally had the continental army take over Philadelphia in 1783 and congress had to flee to Princeton over a payment dispute. Was January 6th embarrassing? Yes. Is it a stain on our history? Legitimate argument. Was it an event that nearly toppled our institutions? Absolutely not

  41. We are down to 8 teams with 10 ranked wrestlers in at least one of Intermat, Flo, and WrestleStat. Of those only 6 are consensus. As a bonus included the teams with 9, 8, or 7 ranked wrestlers in at least one service. The color is based on expected AAs. So while PSU has 10 ranked, they are only expected to have 8 AAs (bright green). And while Army has between 5 and 7 ranked wrestlers they are only expected to have between 0.2 and 0.4 AAs (dark red). The sort is based on number of ranked wrestlers. So while Rutgers is above Iowa with their 9 or 10 ranked wrestlers to Iowa's 7 to 9, Iowa's wrestlers are expected to produce many more AAs (6 to Rutgers 1, plus or minus).
