  1. i just got off the phone with a member on the staff. he said Sammy is doing good and walking on his own and doing rehab. take it for what it's worth. perhaps there's more going on and they don't want to say much. or perhaps it's exactly as they told me. i've talked to his mother once right after it happened. and i've thought about contact sammy or his parents again. but i also want to respect their privacy and not be that guy at this time.

  2. I don't know why I just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading this thread, but let me see if I got this right: This guy has been emailing the "contact us" link on intermat's website with complaints about the amount of Iowa coverage taking place. Willie is getting tired of reading his comments so he's set him upon this board to wreak havoc here instead. Maxwell thinks that sounds like a great idea so he blasts off with a self-titled post complaining to no one in particular about anything and everything Hawkeye related. Maxwell seems to think his post here is a direct line of conversation with Jagger, who I assume talked about Iowa in one of his recent mailbags? That's just too funny. I say we keep Maxwell around. If he is a real person, he's essentially Creed from the office just firing away typing his hot takes into a word document. If he's not a real person it's a much more sophisticated troll job than what we're used to, and I would also welcome that.

  3. Welcome. All we require from you hear is your most scorching takes, and the havoc wreaking will take care of itself. For example: "Vito dominating RBY was impressive" -- not a hot take. On the other hand: "Vito only dominated RBY because RBY didn't fall in line with preacher Cael's 'god above all' party line, so RBY's development was stunted as Cael abandons those who don't walk in the light." -- that's something we can work with.

  4. Thanks for the hilarious posts. I'm a senior citizen in Tucson and have been following wrestling since high school. I'm not an Iowa hater and, not knowing about forums, was sending emails to the intermat "contact us" because I didn't know any better. When I complained about comments being blocked on the website, Willie suggested I join the forum. Not to wreak havoc, but to share my thoughts. There's a lot of Iowa coverage when they've underachieved with the top recruits they had/have and I cited examples going back 10 years. Other stories like a Sammy Sasso update would be nice on the website, now I know to go the forum. The mailbag consistently has non-wrestling stories that are sophomoric, can't questions be found that deal with wrestling? BAN responding to my comments when they were on the website, I have no idea who cinnaban was/ is. Still not sure. I'm a fan of great wrestling and wrestlers, so of course PSU is up there. When Vito took out Fox and RBY, I marveled at his achievement. Loved watching Spencer but when Ramos pinned him, I went nuts. That's what makes wrestling so great. I stated previously that I would learn from this forum, and, thanks to the responses, I have. Some of the conjecture has been very entertaining. The pictures and Get Smart references made me laugh out loud. Look forward to reading the forum. Thanks.

  5. In my opinion the biggest game changer for chicken (at least white meat) is to soak it in a brine or inject with a brine. I keep my brines simple and just boil water with salt, pepper and sugar. I let the brine cool and then typically inject the chicken before cooking it. Give it a shot and it will be the juiciest, most delicious chicken you have ever made.

  12. And what does the Bible say about Lot and his daughters? They knew him. While being clear it is also vague. I do not disagree that there are passages in the Bible that are "racy". Song of Solomon comes to mind. But these are nothing compared to the "graphic" content being removed from school libraries. Do you think it is appropriate to show and explicitly describe sex positions, sexual conduct whether hetero or homo or pan or bi etc for our school age children? Lets start with elementary school age children. I'll settle for that. I personally don't think this content is good for middle and high school age children. You can address them too if you like. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I would like to see you produce an example of books that have been dropped that are not always "graphic". That would be interesting. I can certainly show you books that are "graphic" that have been dropped. mspart

  13. @Husker_Du can you update us on the Sammy situation? Saw this on HR bman546 HR MVP Today at 1:59 PM #1 Initially, after the surgeries they thought things looked good. But, after a few days, they found out Sammy could not walk without aid, and the new outlook was he would go to a rehab facility, but things were still looking good. It turns out he has lost a lot of weight, and they found out his colon was perforated or torn either from the gunshots, or during a surgery, and he has been excreting/leaking from it. This has caused an infection (peritonitis). They tried to repair his colon, it, but it doesn't sound like they were able to...(?) and there are concerns due to his weight loss and weakness from the infection that he may not be able to handle another surgery just yet. To make matters worse, he has yet to respond to the antibiotics used to treat the infection. The situation is very serious. Let's keep Sammy and the Sasso family in our thoughts and prayers.

  15. They don't get any coverage on the forum. Coverage implies there are editors picking and choosing the stories to post. But there are not. Instead it is fan driven content. More Iowa content just means there are more Iowa fans. The simple solution is not to decrease Iowa content, but to increase content for other teams. I have good news here. Instead of creating another Iowa thread, as you did, you could begin a thread for another team or teams.

  23. Agree, and I think he still plans to compete in the 2024 Olympics. Olympic gold is the highest peak in international wrestling, he realizes that and wants a shot at becoming a rare 2x Olympic champ from the USA. As cool as it would be for Gable to be a world champ, that doesn't hold the same marketing appeal within WWE as an Olympic gold. Also, if he were to lose at World's, that might take a little shine off his gold that he earned in 2021. That said, I think if he surprises us and laces the boots up for Serbia, he wins gold.

  25. Definition of 1) boat: a fiberglass hole in the water into which you pour all your money, 2) airplane: an aluminum hole in the sky into which you pour all your money. If you meet someone who owns both a boat and an airplane you should by definition assume one of them is in disrepair.

  28. Yes, Sealey did beat Ryder at Super 32 in 2021 at 152. That weight class was won by Nicco Ruiz and featured Sealey, Ryder, Angelo Ferrari, Mitchell Mesenbrink among others. You could be onto something with Cole Mirasola. If he plans to go heavyweight, he will have the path of least resistance for all the recruits. I put him last on my list because I think he's a tweener size wise and may struggle with the size of the heavyweights. I'm sure he will prove me wrong though...

  30. I would argue 61 KG as well. Arujau could lose to a few guys that aren't Russian (Dake and Snyder have failed to meet Russo's in the finals as well rather recently), but the only one I just don't see him being able to beat is the Russo. That puts peak for him at Silver or Bronze as well.

  31. Right. At the end of the day whoever has to face the guys who lose to to the eventual champion the very next round have the bad draws and the bad draw is the eventual WC, regardless of seeding.

  32. I often have to remind people that it's generally not the top guys that get "screwed" by bad seeding. Normally, it's the other guys who have to face that guy early on.

  34. Micic is going 61 KG, so he won't be seeded. Finesilver has dropped to 86 KG so that moves Valencia up to #6 (which is opposite the Irani) and forfeits any placement points he does have meaning he will be drawn in.

  37. Come on. That is not at all why he gets villified. And let's also admit that Jimmy C 2.0 is < Jimmy C The Original as far as discussion topics go. His old Lou Holtz imitation ("Gee, I have no idea how Penn State is going to beat the Little Sisters of the Poor Junior Varsity team, never mind the Hadley School for the Blind.") in his earlier incarnation was endearing. The new version is much less interesting.

  46. Why does it seem odd? Why should a person be rewarded for not competing for a calendar year? Would you give someone with a 0-0 record the #1 seed at NCAAs? How is this any different?

  48. Well—I’m not a Northwestern guy and don't profess know a ton about the program--but I will get to know them and I am intrigued how coaches outside the blue chip programs (PSU, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio St., etc) adjust to the changing college wrestling landscape. Let me be clear—I don’t blame this Johnson kid at all. Nor do I blame the three transfers for their decisions. I totally understand their decisions. All I am saying is that it isn’t Storniolo’s fault that there was widespread hazing in the football program—that Fitzgerald was fired for it and Storniolo loses his prize dual sport recruit. And it comes on the heels of the transfer debacle, making it another big blow to a team that carries a small roster. And so, by all accounts, I have heard the three transfers are leaving NW on good terms and thankful for what the program did for them. They just got offered a bag of money from the new NIL rules that may be crippling to a program like NW. Again—I do not blame these kids at all. But Storniolo coached those three kids to be AAs. I am sure he put his heart into getting them there and on the podium--which ironically is what got them the money and caused them to leave. When they left in like April (?) he seemed to be left high and dry. It has to be next to impossible to find transfers or 2023 recruits that can meet the rigorous NW academic standards and be capable of credibly filling AA shoes at that late date. Again--circumstances beyond his control. So his program is now faced with taking a public beating in the brutal Big 10. A program that has actually done very well under his watch for the last 5 years or so. And it is not because he hasn’t done his job well or he has mistreated kids, or allowed anything bad to go on in his program (at least not to my knowledge). Seems like a good coach that is a bit of a victim of circumstances here. His program was crippled through no fault of his own. So yeah, I will say he didn't deserve this. I guess that’s my view.
