A gem of a convo on Willie's Twitter/X account & perfect for the summer.  @Wrestleknownothing fire up the data!

does a 1-2 punch need to be back to back?

and I do not think we will find a better 1-2 in the four year era, but it will not stop me from trying

I'm assuming.  @Husker_Du ???   Maybe a one weight gap?  Curious how  Taylor/Ruth ('14) compares to Zain/Nolf's ('17) best year

Williams and McIlravy.

you could do an Iowa only on this topic and be rock solid:

Ed and Lou Banach the year Ed was at 190

Brands bros

Steiner Bros

Zap and Terry Brands

Alger and Rico

Strittmatter and Juergens

etc

Jack Van Bebber and Conrad Caldwell were both undefeated for their career and 3X NC at consecutive weights at Okie State (A&M).  Gonna be hard to beat that.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

Early 80s Californian's:

1980 Cal State Bakersfield's (D2) D1 National Champs 118 Joe Gonzales and 126 John Azevedo

1982 University of Oklahoma's National Champs 167 Dave Schultz and 177 Mark Schultz

of note, all 4 were Olympians, JA on the 80 boycott team and the other 3 1984 (Soviet boycott)

both Schultz were the 2 seeds and defeated the 1 seeds in the finals, with Mark Schultz beating 1984 Olympic teammate and fellow Gold Medal winner Ed Banach

You can tie it at Oklahoma State with Rex Peery and Ross Flood (though Flood had 1 lose)

The only downside with the early day wrestlers is the low match totals. Van Bebber had 22 total matches in three years, Caldwell had 18, Peery had 29 and Flood had 32.

I have the Brands brothers number one on the brothers punch list with the Banach brothers number  two and the aforementioned Merle and Burl in the number three slot.

But number one in the state of Iowa has to be Northern Iowa's Keith Young and Bill Nelson. Both three time champs.

They only wrestled  1-2 for one year.  @Wrestleknownothing can you categorize best career duo and best single season duo?

I sat in the 120 section the day this took place. JC’s contribution is a good one.
