Just saw brackets are out. Go to arena.uww.org.

At first glance, it looks like Spencer gets:

R32 a Moroccan (heavy favorite)

R16 #1 seed Zou of China (slight favorite; Zou is feisty)

Quarters: probably Egorov of Macedonia via Russia (favorite)

Semi's: Sarlak of Iran (arguably slight favorite, but Sarlak is seasoned at events like this and Spencer is not)

Zain's draw isn't great. It's exactly what we feared at this weight. He has to hold his nerve for 4 tough wins to get to the final:

R64 Coman of Romania (unlucky to have a R64 match..only a few do..Coman will put up some resistance, but Zain should win)

R32 A Yemenese (should be easy)

R16 Tumur Ochir of Mongolia (super scary...very solid, athletic guy)

Quarters: Probably the Russian/Tajik Kudiev (not as good as Tumur Ochir, but he'll be well rested after 2 easy matches compared to 3 matches, with 2 tough ones for Zain)

Semi's: Sujeet of India or Jalolov of Uzbekistan likely here (both very tough)

Brutal draw for Kamal Bey, also. Russia, Belarus, Sweden...then probably the Georgian or Nemes the Serbian. All coin flip type of matches.

Spencer Lee won't have to wrestle Aman of India, which would've been the toughest hurdle. He also doesn't have to face two of the bigger, stronger former medalists in Zanzabar Zandanbud of Mongolia or Horst Lehr of Germany.

The questions to be answered for Lee:

1. He'll need a good cut, as he has a first-round match, while China's Wanghao Zou gets a bye and will be waiting for him.

2. Egorov in the next round is a former Russian and has medaled at the Euro Championships.

3. Sarlak of Iran or Dingashavili of Georgia in the semis to win the spot.

Coleman may have the most workable bracket of the Greco guys: Belarus, then a non-Greco nation, then probably Bulgaria, then probably Hungary in the semi's. His quarter seems much more doable. If he can get to the semi's, he obviously gets 2 shots to qualify

I like Lee's chances.  Zou here feels like the scary landmine. He's very athletic and gives everyone problems. He doesn't get blown out. Egorov hasn't had amazing results the past couple seasons, although he's a real opponent, certainly. Sarlak has been MIA the last 2 seasons and wrestling behind Iran's weakest starter, so not sure the story there. Dingashvili is solid, but I'd definitely favor Spencer if that was the semi's match and everything was on the line. All in all, if he wrestles anything like trials, I think he controls his own destiny.

I Prefer Zou and Sarlak over Aman for spencer. His gas tank seemed very good at trials but given his history with it Aman scared me a lot because he has one of the best motors ive ever seen. I like the Zou matchup super fundamental and positionally sound but should wrestle at Spencers pace and I just don't think anyone beats Spencer in a chess match. As for Sarlak I think it comes down to winning the handfight and not allows his ties mainly the underhook which I think Spencer should be just fine doing.

As for Zain. Ochir is one of the best guys In the world I think zain needs to get through his earlier matches quickly so he can recover the cut will be hard and Ochir is probably consistently better than anyone he wrestled at trials. If he beats Ochir he should certainly beat kadiev. out of Sujeet and jalolov I do not know which is better for him. Jalolov beat sujeet at the Asian qualifier so I guess I would expect him to win again. Jalolov lost to nick lee last year 4-3 at worlds but he was only 20 or 21 at the time so you would expect hes making decent strides still. He has also had some razor thin matches with Ochir. Sujeet of course has the win over Yianni before Yianni went on to win silver so he is very dangerous but he seems to have not found that form he had in 2022 as of recent. All in all its about as bad as it could be for Zain I think he can absolutely do it and if he does he could absolutely win gold in Paris its just a very tough road.

Spencer is generally pretty solid when someone tries to underhook him, thankfully.  Granted the Iranians live there, making it a bit different.

From the looks of the 74kg bracket, it appears that Chamizo drew a bout against the #1 seed. I thought he was supposed to be the #1 seed.

Great points, as always. Really annoyed about the R64 nuisance vs Coman. Zain will beat him, but a tech is unlikely and he'll go into Ochir having invested himself already. Silver lining if he loses to Ochir is obviously that Ochir would then be favored to the final and bring Zain into day 2. But with Kudiev's first 2 being easy, that QF becomes much tougher for a spent Zain/Ochir winner too.  Really, really tricky day for Zain.

That's what he gets for complaining about UWW!

this is honestly the best portion of the bracket he could be on though so he should not be too upset.

disregard this he has winner of kentchadze Valiev r3 and then likely Kuramagomedov.

Salk got an absolutely blessed side of the bracket.

I am rooting for all hell to break loose.  I hope Amine decks him.

Good stuff.

But is it the same Ochir? He went 1-1 at Worlds last year losing to the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Rivera. And he obviously did not do well enough in his regional qualifier to avoid last chance. The issue for me will be that the matches come thick and fast at a weight Zain has to cut to make. What kind of recovery will he experience.

at worlds he lost to Haji on critera (former world champ) and won the asian games that year teching amouzad (world champ) in the finals.

At the asian games this year he lost to amouzad 2-1 in the finals I have no idea why they only take 1 guy from there but I guess they do, he also teched nick lee (also beat musakaev 3-0 at that event) and beat mckenna at two ranking series last year. I think on any given weekend he can be a world champ but luckily, I feel the same about Zain.

Mongolia did not send Ochir to the Asian Qualifier they sent someone else.

They don't take anyone from the Asian Games - like Pan ams they have a separate Asian Olympic Qualifier (which Amouzadi wouldn't be in as Iran is already qualified at 65kg) - Mongolia sent a wrestler named T Tseveensuren to the AOQ and he lost to Akmatliev from Kyrgyzstan who made the finals. The other guy to qualify there was the Japaneese wrestler K. Kyooka

GREAT!

UWW site is "503 servics Temporarily Unavailable" so I can't see the brackets...

AND Roberts (GR 60Kg rep for USA) just lost to the Ukrainian, 11-6.

What else could happen next?

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

AND Bey just got bounced (8-0) by the AIN (RUS) wrestler.

(What are the chances that the ruskie makes it thru the semis?)

Coleman went 1-1 and needs to depend on a repechage shot too.

The Russian can definitely get through and bring Bey back in. The Ukrainian and Swiss that beat our other two don't seem likely, though.
