An early front-runner for this year's perseverance award is Cam McCormick who was just granted a record 9th year of eligibility. However, he may not prevail as he will still only be a young, spry 26 years old when he has exhausted his eligibility. Surely there is a wrestler out there who can best that number!

My apologies, @bnwtwg.

Never apologize to me for that is a fool's errand

It makes sense that he would.... he has persevered through 8 years of college wrestling, which is double what some have had to persevere through....

Daton Fix will be 26 in March.

This right here, this is some of the silliest garbage I can remember.  I get it bc he’s probably making a decent paycheck, but to quote rob koll, “past a certain point you have to ask ‘what’s the point?’”

Kirk has to be getting up there in age too.

Kerk could have competed in U23s last year.  He won't be able to this year.

I don't know his story beyond saving Stanford wrestling headlines. Impressive, but I imagine folks don't go to Stanford with an eye toward making a life as a professional wrestler (e g. World Team member or college coach). I would assume he had other life goals. So yada opportunity cost yada, his decision to chase this dream is ... something.

I'm sure he's being well compensated in NIL and adding Michigan alums to his already impressive network of Stanford alums.

And getting a master’s degree, or did he already have one from Stanford?  Even if he did, another can’t hurt

If these "kids" aren't careful, they will soon be eligible to rent their own cars to drive to meets (25), be off Mommie's health insurance (26), have voted in their third presidential election (18, 22, 26), and be more than half way to AARP (50/2) before their last NCAA tournament.  Endless adolescence, um, uh . . . perseverance.

I don't think so, but they will begin to rapidly disappear after this.

Should still be a lot next year and a decent amount even the year after.

Next year will be the last for guys who were redshirt freshmen in 2021 (like Starocci if he comes back) or true freshmen in 2021 who may not end up using a redshirt (like O’Toole assuming he comes back and doesn’t redshirt next year).

But if there were true freshmen that wrestled in 2021 and redshirted later, they will also have the 2026 season for their 5th tournament.

Might still be a couple even after that if there are regular redshirts + Olympic/medicals

Sure, but not like buy-a-condo-in-Tribeca-money.

In any event, I was just thinking that the NIL money would be temporary. I hadn't consider that the networking would help him after he left his shoes on the mat.  Shows why my bank account us what it is.
