I think I smell gold on that men's freestyle team ! A darn solid women's team too. Tons of outstanding and shocking matches too ... :)

Granted, I don't follow international rasslin enough to have any sort of informed view but it sure seemed to me that Oliver came out of nowhere to win this. He had lost several bouts in recent years, so it's impressive to see him improve so quickly so as to win this spot.

I wouldn’t say that he came out of nowhere, he owns a few decent wins across all of the field including international wrestlers. They all end up beating each other at 65kg and sadly the US hasn’t medaled at that weight since Zadick won a title there. Oliver reminds me of Coleman Scott, always in the mix being a top three guy but when it came to the Olympics he was the one qualify the weight and get a medal. Molinaro had a similar path being the odd guy to qualify for the Olympics but he ended up qualifying the weight and taking 5th... losing to Chamizo for it.

Of course, I'm going to be biased to show how Doug Schwab was very similar to Oliver. Sort of hung on the fringes for years, finally making the Olympic team in 2008.

You'd think the plethora of world talent would warrant more than six weight classes. Well, I would anyhow.

Agreed. It's asinine.

Maybe if wrestling was popular with people besides wrestlers, their parents and boyfriends/girlfriends.
