Averett University Graduate Assistant/ Assistant Coach Position

Averett University, a private Division III school in Danville, Va., is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Wrestling Graduate Assistant. A Wrestling Graduate Assistant is not full-time employee as the position is intended for graduate students employed in activities with the wrestling team. Athletics is part of the overall educational process and provides life skills lessons and support of the academic process.

You will assist in all aspects of running a successful collegiate program. You will conduct yourself with professionalism and sportsmanship. You need good skills in time management, organization, communication, relationship building and attention to detail. You will become a part of ONE TEAM and help within the department as needed. You are expected to abide by all guidelines and regulations for Virginia, Averett, USA South, NCAA and all other relevant laws. Enrollment in Averett’s graduate school is a requirement of this position. On top of graduate school candidates will be expected to help with the day to day operation of running an NCAA sport while assisting the head coach in duties.

- Bachelor’s degree
- Acceptance and enrollment in Graduate School.
- College wrestling experience.

A wrestling graduate position is provided tuition, a stipend, room and board. You will be expected to support and engage students and student-athletes in learning opportunities outside of the classroom and playing field through the student life programs and assist the department in other duties as assigned.

Averett’s wrestling program will begin its first year of competition in the 2017-18 collegiate season. We will compete in the South East Wrestling conference and qualify for the NCAA Championships through the East Regional.
