Menlo College Wrestle-offs
ATHERTON – The Menlo College men’s wrestling team’s underclassmen-laden White squad edged out the Blue squad, 32-31, on Sunday at Haynes-Prim Pavilion in the Oaks annual preseason intersquad tuneup.
Freshman Pablo Sanchez (133) led the way for the White squad winning two matches while freshman Robert Davis (165) and junior Trevor Blackwelder (285) each captured a pair of matches for the Blue.
"Our freshman did an outstanding job. I was pleased with our overall performance this early in the year," head coach Keith Spataro said. "The guys seemed to be responding to the training, which usually indicates the year will be fun and successful."
Freshmen Austin Cronan and Addison Chipoletti (184) each split their matches for the Blue, while freshman Stephen Towne (165) of the White halved his matches as well. Freshman John Hayworth won his match at 149 for the White but fell when he moved up to 157.
Standard meet scoring was used and the results are below.
The Oaks open the 2005-06 season Nov. 5 as the program hosts the Menlo College Open inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion beginning at 9 a.m.
