Western State wrestle-offs

(Nov. 11, 2005) A fall by senior heavyweight Kipp Cullin gave Crimson an 18-15 victory over Slate in the annual Intrasquad dual at Paul Wright Gym tonight.

Cullin, a two-time National Qualifier, pinned Andrew Wanner in
4:32 to ice the win.

Slate had taken a 15-12 lead on Cody Mumma’s major decision at 197 pounds before Cullin’s heroics.

Red-shirt freshman Larry Wilbanks, despite getting injured in the first period, held on for a 7-3 victory over Dan Roesch at 165 and gave Crimson the lead 9-8. Red-shirt freshman Charlie Pipher pushed the lead to
12-8 with a thrilling 13-11 come-from-behind victory over Lars Lueders.

Senior Robert Pacheco scored a 2-1 victory over Dillon Waggoner at
184 to cut the lead to 12-11 before Slate regained the lead briefly with Mumma’s victory.

Red-shirt freshman Tate Lowe (133) and sophomore Chris Freiji
(141) gave Crimson a 6-0 lead to open up the dual before Slate came rolling back.

Sophomore and 2005 National Qualifier Camille DuPont (149) got Slate on the board with a come-from-behind 8-7 victory over Neil Samples and sophomore Zach Lee gave Slate their first lead at 8-6 with a tech fall victory over Nick Ross.
