Pacific intrasquad
Pacific wrestling fans got a glimpse of the future Friday night as a number of Pacific's men's and women's wrestlers saw their first mat time of the season in the Alumni Match/Red & Black Intrasquad Match at the Pacific Athletic Center.
A total of eight new Pacific wrestlers, five men and three women, saw their first action in red and black, while three Pacific alums came home to return to their old glories on the mat in front of a small crowd of Pacific fans and former wrestlers.
The alums won two of the three matches contested. Mick Davis '05 won the final match of the evening, picking up a 12-4 major decision over Boxer newcomer Kory Pratt (Fr., Weiser, Idaho). Rob DeCou '04 picked up a win over Josh Monge (Fr., Chandler, Ariz.). Joel Meeuwsen (Fr., St. Helens,
Ore.) picked up the only Pacific win over the alums, posting a second round pin over Russ Dyke.
Among the Boxers' men's returners, Chris Beechwood (Jr., Homer, Alaska) picked up a 9-4 decision over Justin Phelps (Fr., Lanai City, Hawaii), Marshall Cook (So., Canby, Ore.) won a 7-3 decision over Jake Reynolds (So., Spokane, Wash.) and Matt Bowe (So., Bend, Ore.) took a 3-2 decision from newcomer Bryson Vivas (Fr., Kahuku, Hawaii).
On the women's side, Teresa Ayala (Jr., Pacifica, Calif.) was the only returner to pick up a victory, earning a second round pin over Valerie Prise (Jr., Diamond Bar, Calif.). Transfer Summer Scott (So., Castro Valley,
Calif.) won a two-round match over Ashley Schalow (Fr., Des Moines, Wash.) and Erin Zimmerman (Fr., Lithia, Fla.) shutout Megan Richardson (So., Santa Paula, Calif.).
The Boxers will pick up the counting part of their 2006-07 schedules next week. The Pacific women will travel north next Saturday for the Clan International tournament, while both teams will compete next Sunday at the Mike Clock Open in Forest Grove.
