BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- 12th-ranked Virginia Tech won its seventh dual in a row on Sunday as the Hokies defeated No. 24 Lehigh, 23-9, in Grace Hall.The series between Virginia Tech and Lehigh is now tied at 3-3.
Tech (7-2) won seven of the 10 bouts including four straight wins to start the match from 125 pounds through 149. Redshirt senior Zack Zavatsky, ranked eighth in the country, registered a minor upset over No. 7 Ryan Preisch, 7-2, that clinched the dual for the Hokies.
The Hokies will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 1, when they travel to Duke for a 7 p.m. match.
Zavatsky, who defeated Preisch in sudden victory in the quarterfinals at last year's NCAA championships to All-American for the first time, was trailing 2-1 in the third when he converted a takedown and caught Preisch on his back for a two count. The four-point move also helped Zavatsky clinch the riding time point, making the final score 7-6.
Zavatsky now has 99 career victories.
Ryan Blees' 8-3 decision over Cortlandt Schuyler was his fourth consecutive win and is now 11-9 on the season.
Joey Prata used two takedowns and riding time to start the afternoon with a 5-1 decision, his second victory of the weekend.
Mekhi Lewis registered his second tech fall of the season in the lone bonus point win of the match. He now has eight bonus victories this season.
