SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A first-period fall by Devon Lotito and major decisions by Luke McDonald and Nicolas Johnson powered the Cal Poly wrestling team to a 29-9 victory over Menlo College in a non-conference dual meet Saturday afternoon in the Mott Athletics Center.
Coach Brendan Buckley's Mustangs snapped a three-match losing streak and evened their dual meet mark at 3-3. Menlo fell to 3-6.
Lotito notched his second fall of the season and fifth of his two-year Mustang career, pinning Juan Zorrilla of Menlo in 1 minute, 29 seconds. Lotito scored a takedown, three-point near fall and two-point near fall before pinning his Oak opponent on the third try.
McDonald, wrestling for the first time since the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 22, earned three takedowns, an escape and five near-fall points en route to a 13-1 major decision over Christian Franks at 157 pounds.
Johnson snapped a four-match losing streak with a 15-6 major decision over Martin Gonzalez at 197 pounds. Johnson recorded a pair of takedowns, three escapes, a reversal and five near-fall points for his third win of the season.
Mustang winners by decision were Britain Longmire at 125 pounds, Kyle Chené at 149 and Kent Beecham at 174. Sean Dougherty won by forfeit at 184.
Cal Poly is now 4-0 in its all-time series against Menlo.
The Mustangs wrestle at Wyoming on Friday and Northern Colorado on Sunday.
