Fleming, Sherlock lead Clarion past Bucknell

CLARION, Pa. -- Clarion won six bouts, including a fall from #3 James Fleming (Sr. West Mifflin) at 157 and major decision from Sam Sherlock (So. West Mifflin) at 141 to lead Clarion to a 25-16 win over Bucknell in NCAA Division I wrestling on Friday night.

Held at W.S. Tippin Gym, Clarion raised its record to 5-8 overall, while Bucknell dropped to 6-12.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Tyler Fraley won by forfeit at 125.

After Joe Waltko lost 16-6 to Paul Petrov at 133-pounds, the Golden Eagles ran off three straight wins to jump to a 19-4 lead.

Sam Sherlock started the run with a 12-3 major decision over Derrik Russell at 141. Sherlock had two takedowns and two near falls to raise his record to 10-9.

Tyler Bedelyon came on at 149 for an 11-5 win over Adam Healey. Bedelyon had two takedowns and a three point near fall to post the win.

#3 ranked James Fleming pinned Vincent Favia at 6:29 at 157-pounds to push his season record to 27-2 and overall record to 119-18. Fleming led 14-1 at the time of the fall and Clarion had a 19-4 lead.

After Nick Milano lost a technical fall to #10 ranked Corey Lear at 165, Ryan Darch posted a 4-3 over Robert Schlitt at 174. Steven Cressley lost 8-4 to Robert Marchese at 184, but Clarion's Justin Ortega won a 9-5 decision at 197 to clinch the victory for the Golden Eagles. Ortega upped his record to 17-11.

Heavyweight Phil Catrucco lost a 10-2 major decision to Joe Stolfi at heavyweight to make the final score 25-16.

Clarion will host Lehigh at 2pm on Saturday.
